This Plymouth aging in place bathroom project was for an older adult couple in Plymouth, MI who wanted to prepare their home for aging in place. The bathroom remodel was for accessibility and based on ADA standards for bathroom design.

This client is a Veteran, with a disability that restricts him to a wheelchair most of the time. We wanted to give him a space that made bathroom accessibility easier and more enjoyable for him and his wife.

This project turned out very well and looks fantastic. The results were exactly what they need to stay in their home as long as they are able.

We designed and installed a curb-less ADA accessible shower with glass double doors, a flip-down bench, ADA approved grab bars and shower fixtures that give him the freedom to sit and fully access the shower. The vanity area for him was designed to be able to fit a wheelchair underneath, while his wife’s was built to give them both ample storage.

This space opened up considerably and with the location and accessibility for wheelchair accessibility, grab bar locations, plumbing fixture locations and expanding the opening to the bathroom to a 36” wide wheelchair accessible width.

Once the vanity was installed, we did have to drop the right side down another 3-4” for his seating height to be more comfortable to use the sink and for mirror access. We also installed corner bumpers along the wall next to the vanity, so no worrying about corner bumps that damage the paint and drywall.

Our clients were thrilled and excited to use their new space! I did stop over again after the 1st week of them using the new bathroom and they love the functionality and beauty of their new space. Another happy client!
